When I left NASA, I went to the Smithsonian Libraries, housed in the National Museum of Natural History. I put my PHP skills to use and learned Drupal and how to develop themes and modules for the Drupal CMS. Drupal is a beautiful and very robust system with tons of APIs and hooks that help with development.
The Smithsonian Libraries had a company do a redesign so I had the joy of implementing it over the summer of 2014. It was my first attempt at theming with a given PSD. The dots are done in jQuery and the entire site is responsive. The base theme is Omega and the child theme was my creation to make it look like the powers that be wanted. Beneath the dots on the homepage are horizontal boxes, which highlight the Libraries collections. View the Smithsonian Libraries site.
